Fine Arts Kickball Tournament

The Fine Arts Department will be hosting their annual spring kickball tournament during late April and May. The tradition was started last year by all of the fine arts organizations and will continue for a long time.

“The tournament is just a tradition that we decided to start in order to get everyone in Fine Arts involved,” junior, band student Emily Hines said. “Normally you are segregated into whatever group you are a part of, so this really brings us all together.”

Last year, Band played against Art for the final game. As it turned out, Art won the tournament. This year, many predict that the art students will win for the second year in a row.

“Art has a lot of football players,” Hines said. “They are way more athletic than all the rest of us nerdy kids, so I think art will be able to pull it off again.”

In this year’s bracket, choir and orchestra will play against each other, and theater and dance will do so as well. The winners will advance to play either band or art. The finalists will be whoever wins those games.

“We were thinking of holding a rehearsal to prepare for the tournament,” junior, choir student Andrew Iniguez said. “Last year, choir didn’t have a lot of people, so it was hard to win.”

The prize has not yet been determined for the first place winner. In the previous year, art created a handmade trophy for the grand champion.

“Last year, art went all out and made a trophy out of clay,” Hines said. “The second place winner received a small, plastic store-bought trophy. I think that since they knew they were going to win, they made the first place trophy really big and spectacular.”

Some of the organizations are preparing and practicing for their upcoming games in order to motivate their players.

“Usually, there is a group of people who get together to make signs, and then all the athletic kids get together to practice,” Hines said. “I think it is just going to take a lot of team spirit, but no matter what, we are going to have fun.”

The first game will occur on April 20 at 4:30 p.m. In that game, choir will play against orchestra.

“I believe that we will be able to win because we have the heart and the passion for being able to pull through,” Iniguez said. “As far as numbers go, we have really grown from last year a lot. I think that as long as we work hard and learn from our mistakes we will be able to win.

Different people are expecting to get different things out of participating in the tournament. For Emily Hines, it’s endorsing her fine art organization.

“The tournament is just a great way to come out and support the group you are a part of,” Hines said. “You get to see other people in action and out of what they normally do. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun this year.”
