Under the Sea with “The Little Mermaid”

This year Reedy Theatre performed The Little Mermaid as their fall musical. The Reedy Theatre department has been working on this production since the beginning of the school year, leading this production to be one of Reedy Theatre’s biggest productions yet.

“This has been one of my favorite performances I have been a part of,” the actress of Ariel, Grace Figueroa, said. “I love The Little Mermaid, it was my favorite movie as a kid, so it’s very cool to bring my childhood to life.”

The Little Mermaid is a beloved and important show to many, including Reedy High School’s theater department. Many Reedy actors, like Charlie Kirby, are making their debut with this production.

“This is actually my first theater production. So it means a lot that I get to play one of the lead roles,” the actress of Ursula, Charlie Kirby said.  ”It’s just very, very special. I know this is a very big production, so I’m very honored to just have been a part of it.”

The cast has spent countless hours rehearsing for this show. Throughout their preparations, they have created special relationships with each other.

“The cast has bonded so much over the course of this show, it feels like one big family,” the actress of Jetsam, Isabella Herrera said.

While the audience only views the final show, a large part of the production relies on the hard work of Reedy’s technical theater department.

“We’ve been working really hard on this show so I’m really looking forward to seeing it all come together in the end,” tech crew member Julia O’Hare said. “I’m mainly looking forward to seeing costumes since we’ve been working so hard on all the tails and all the costume pieces.”

The accumulation of the tremendous amount of work put into this production shines through when viewing The Little Mermaid from the audience. The talent of the actors, technicians, directors, and orchestra is centerstage in this show.

“The directors, cast, crew, orchestra, and I have put so much work into bringing this show to life,” Figueroa said. “We are so proud to present The Little Mermaid!”
