As the temperature starts to cool and the leaves change colors, it can only mean one thing, that Fall has arrived. There are many things to look forward to during this season, one of them being Halloween. This year, Halloween fell on a Thursday, meaning that Reedy High School’s staff and students were able to celebrate during the school day.
One of the things that makes Halloween so special is it allows everyone to show their creativity by dressing up in costumes.
“I love the idea of expressing yourself and showcasing your interests by being someone else,” junior Teyam Nezami said.
The band also joined in on the celebration, holding a friendly costume competition between sections during the football game that night. Everyone was able to have fun with the competition, and the trombone section, dressed as bananas, ended up winning.
“I thought it was really fun to be able to dress up with my section,” sophomore Blake Hendershott said. “It was cool to see everyone come together like that.”
Although Halloween candy is a big part of the holiday, many students only see candy as an added bonus.
“It’s not really about the candy, or even about dressing up,” sophomore Makenna Nasche said. “It’s about being with your friends and having a fun shared experience.”
But students aren’t the only ones who celebrated, many teachers also joined in on the Halloween spirit.
“I always try to make it as special as possible,” math teacher Brittany Treviono said. “It’s fun to just not be yourself for a day.”
Halloween is often thought of as a holiday to have fun with friends, express yourself, and eat as much candy as you want.
“Halloween is this specific special time of year where you can be as dramatic and fun as you want to be,” Nasche said. “ I think it’s an amazing thing that we can all dress up and just be ourselves.”
