Released in theaters on Sept. 27, 2024, “Wild Robot” has been making major waves in the film market. Directed by Chris Sanders, known for his work on “How to Train Your Dragon,” the film has already reached number six on the Internet Movie Database’s list of the most popular movies of 2024.
“Wild Robot” is a beautifully constructed story about an intelligent robot named Roz who is stranded on an uninhabited island and has to survive by building connections with the animals. The movie focuses on her adopting and taking care of an orphaned goose, Brightbill.
While a majority of ratings range around 8.5 stars, I gave this movie a full 10/10. Having seen the trailer, animation, and idea alone had me walking into the theater with high expectations. To my enthusiastic surprise, all my expectations were exceeded as I walked out of that building in tears.
The art style is one I would compare with that of “Across The Spider-Verse”; a well-crafted storybook-like look that blended seamlessly with the systems and skills of modern animation. The storyline is amazingly formatted with what I felt was a perfect balance between humor and sincerity. For the first time in what feels like ages, I felt as though I was watching a movie where every pixel, every word, every sound, was carefully constructed by people who had a genuine connection to the characters and their story. I felt the emotions radiate off the screen, filling my eyes with tears.
The messages the movie was trying to convey were clear and thoroughly explored. Exploring ideas of love, humanity, and creativity, at every turn there was something to take away. The movie truly appeals to all ages and has something for everyone. Following along with Roz and Brightbill as they piece together their relationships with the world around them, each other, and even themselves, the audience grows a deep love and appreciation for their dynamics and growth.
Not only was the story delicately crafted, but the cast was absolutely mind blowing. Along with seasoned stars such as Pedro Pascal and Ving Rhames, the creators brought on young upcoming cast members such as Kit Conner. With these talents, the movie was truly brought to life by their brilliant skill and heart.
Watching this movie, I felt immersed in the lives of these beautiful characters and I left the theater feeling touched and moved. All in all, “The Wild Robot” has been the best movie I have seen all year. I implore everyone to give it a watch in theaters or on Amazon Prime, and come prepared with tissues.
