Clubs are a fun and easy way to meet new people and potential friends. Especially since there are many different clubs that focus on unique interests. The Creative Writing club offers these unique opportunities to Reedy High School students.
No matter the club there is always a reason for starting it, whether it’s personal or academic.
“I started this club so there weren’t sets of rules to follow while you write,” co-leader of the writing club, J Varghese said. “You could write about any genre you want.”
People can have a passion for something, however it’s useless without a concrete purpose. It can all fall apart if there is no goal in mind.
“It helps students become more comfortable with sharing their writing and learning to get constructive criticism from others,” Varghese said. “You meet some new types of writers or sometimes even local famous authors.”
This club not only provides a comfortable place to share your work, it also provides opportunities to better your writing and accomplish something grand.
“I want to finish or get close to finishing one of my stories that I am currently working on,” new member of writing club, Annabella Dwyer, said. “I joined this club so I could find the time to put my story ideas into writing.”
The Creative Writing club does many things to make itself useful to students. Including the social opportunities that it gives students.
“I can meet other people who enjoy writing as much as I do,” Dwyer said. “So it’s very refreshing to have this kind of environment.”
The members of this club aren’t only into writing, sharing their interests are a must here. Although not everyone has the same hobbies, people are very respectful and open-minded.
“I’m not into some of the stuff other members are,” returning member, Iha Karthik said. “But I still never feel dumb or uncultured for it.”
Writing club provides a safe place for people to share and grow as a person, not just as a writer.
“I feel a greater sense of unity and like this club is a family, in a way,” Dwyer said. “Which is a really nice feeling.”
While unity and family are defining traits of this club, the club members aren’t the only ones who feel this way.
“I love getting to pour into young writers on their journey,” the Creative Writing club sponsor, Amanda Putman, said. “And do something related to writing that is not a lesson.”
