Little Miss Cheer is more than a workshop, it’s a special tradition that brings the community together and creates special memories. The young kids get to learn cheers, make friends, and feel like part of the team, while the older cheerleaders share what they love and inspire the next generation.
Little Miss Cheer is a workshop Reedy cheerleaders hold at the school every year. This workshop is for kids ages 5-12 that allows them to be Reedy cheerleaders for the day
“Little Miss cheer is a special event where high school cheerleaders pair up with elementary- aged kids, guiding them through routines and giving them the full cheer experience.” Sophomore Mason Myers
Little Miss Cheer gives little kids opportunities to learn from their role models, and do the same things the cheerleaders do on a regular basis.
“We learn to dance, we learn to cheer and dance,” junior varsity cheerleader Mason Myers said. “We get to know each other, and we just have some fun with the littles.”
Hundreds of little kids come to Little Miss Cheer every year. These students are often excited to be around cheerleaders, learn new things, and be with their best friends.
“I think it’s just the principle of it,” varsity cheerleader Mia Camacho said. “The idea for them that’s like, ‘oh my goodness, a big cheerleader is teaching me all this stuff and she actually does cheer’. I think they are just so excited. It is also so fun for them to show their parents all the new things they learn.”
“While the event is rewarding, it has its challenges. One of the main struggles is keeping the kids focused” Senior Mia Camacho
Little kids are so full of energy and always want to be doing something, making the cheerleaders find a way to keep their attention while having fun.
“Keeping their attention and not getting them to run can be difficult,” Camacho said. “It’s also difficult to make sure that they actually know the material.”
While there are multiple challenges, the hardest challenge goes on behind the scenes, that the parents and coaches have to handle
“The most challenging part is the organization process. There are so many moving parts behind the scenes that you would not even think of on the surface.” Cheer coach Kristi Istre said. “Our incredible admin, Mrs. Clary, really made sure this event went on seamlessly and for that we are so grateful.”
Thanks to Coach Istre, her team, and the support of parents, Little Miss Cheer keeps growing each year. It builds friendships, team spirit, and reminds everyone that cheerleading is about more than just routines, it’s about community and fun that lasts.
“I still have a picture from when I did it,” Camacho said. “I remember being so scared to showcase all the stuff, but I remember having so much fun.”
