After last year’s successful season when the Reedy Girls Basketball Team became District Champions, the team is looking to defend their title and make it further in the postseason.
“The Goals we have for the season are definitely to win district again because we won last year,” Varsity basketball Coach Mason said. “Then, make it past the regional tournament, which is four rounds deep in the playoffs next year. We’re excited to extend on the success we had last year.”
The season may have just begun, but the team is working hard in practices to fulfill their many goals.
“We normally start off with some stretches and then get into some basics, like layups and shooting drills,” senior Karrington Jackson said. “Eventually, we go over our plays and what we’re gonna do for the next thing.”
While each player enjoys participating with the team, waking up early everyday for practice and staying up late to make deadlines for school can be taxing on all athletes.
“It can be really hard at times, especially during the season when there’s a lot of work with deadlines and stuff,” sophomore Katelyn Arledge said. “So it’s a lot of late nights and early mornings.”
The Girl’s Basketball team, with all of its accomplishments, have people the players can look up to and motivate them to push themselves to be the best players they can be.
“I started playing basketball because of my brother, he was very athletic and I wanted to be just like him, so any sport that he did I wanted to do,” sophomore Kayden Heberle said. “Soccer was my main sport, but then I just had this one coach and he made me fall in love with the game of basketball and ever since then, I’ve never put the ball down”
Between games and practices, the Girl’s Basketball team spends a lot of time together, giving them the opportunity to create new relationships.
“My favorite part about coaching is the relationships that I get to build,” Mason said. “I used to be a player here when I was younger, so being able to come back and pour into the team in the same way that my coaches have poured their energy into me.”
