Managing school, tests, and activities can be tough, but some students have found ways to make it easier.
The most commonly asked question by incoming freshmen is “how do students manage the high school workload?” Here are their tips to help you do your best without feeling overwhelmed.
“Get it done as soon as you can and do not procrastinate” senior Gurleen Buttar said. “Doing your work early means less stress and better quality. You should also use a good calendar, so that way, you won’t forget anything important.”
For test preparation, students need all the help they can find. There are many preparation resources that can ease students’ nerves.
“I go to advisory to get extra help, and I also look at Canvas to review materials,” Buttar said. “Using these tools can help you feel more ready and confident.”
“Using a planner and taking early release gives me more time to focus,” junior Alexandra Berg said. “I study at cafes because I focus better there, no matter the subject. Finding a place where you can concentrate is really important.”
Berg, like many students, spends about two to three hours a week studying, but some classes take more effort. It is important to know which subjects need the most attention so you can plan your time better.
“Study for tests and work on things that are worth the most points first,” senior Cassidy Schroder said. “For tough classes like AP Calculus AB, AP Chemistry, and Dual Credit Government, you should start studying several days before a test and do practice problems to make sure you understand. Starting early and practicing helps a lot.”.
