Nearing the end of the school year seniors have started deciding where to spend the next four years of their lives. Students are trying to decide which college is right for them by looking at the classes, major options, and campus energy.
Sororities and fraternities are a big part of students’ college experience, providing them with the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.
“I plan on rushing in the fall of 2025 because it’s a great way to get your name out there in the college that you are going to be spending the next four years at,” senior Morgan Bedsole said. “And of course you meet new people and find who you want to hang out with”
Choosing a college depends on what students are looking for in their new school, whether it’s smaller classes, a larger campus, or the sports programs offered.
“The athletics programs, specifically basketball and football, programs that it had such as master’s degree options, living-learning programs (LLPs), and research opportunities were enticing to me,” senior Grant Henderson said. “I also looked at the opportunity to connect with people I don’t know.”
Choosing a major that suits your interests and future goals can determine where your future will take you.
“I chose to major in biology because I have always been interested in science and plan on going into the medical field,” senior and Abilene Christian University soccer commit Emma Taylor said. “And I know that majoring in biology can help me in that field.“
Visiting colleges helps students decide where they want to attend, especially athletes. Factors like how they’re treated, the quality of the facilities, and the level of difficulty play into where they want to attend.
“I kind of made my decision based on how I was treated when I was on those visits, and how that whole process was going.” senior and Rice University Football commit Luka Akirtava said.
Some students want to go far away from home to go to college wanting to be out on their own, but others want to stay closer to their homes and families.
“I always have wanted to go out of state.” said senior Grant Henderson “I want to be as far away as I can from home while also being within a reachable distance.”
Every year seniors have to go through the same process as the seniors before them, hoping for it to be stress free.
“My advice is to focus on high school,” senior Morgan Bedsole said. “Because the application process is not something that one needs to stress about.”
