On October 9, the Reedy Cross Country Team will face off against 11 other schools in the district meet at Myers Park.
Since its founding in 2015, Reedy’s cross country team has seen great success and talent. However, last year the cross country team failed to qualify for state. This year’s team has lots of potential as much of the team consists of experienced runners who started their journey in middle school.
“I initially joined to stay in shape and get faster,” freshman cross country runner Dennis Johnson said. “It’s a good program that’s very inviting for people to join.”
The middle school cross country programs seem to be the reason for a high number of runners joining the high school team their freshman year.
“We did a good job of finding people to join and I guess a lot of people were excited from middle school,” senior Alex Roeren said.
As a team, the general consensus is to qualify for state this year after a disappointing loss last season.
“Our biggest goal is to make state in November,” junior Sounak Sen said. “As a team, we try to get enough sleep and healthy nutrition, out of school, and give it our all during practice along with adequate recovery.”
After all the hard work put in this year, many of the runners are confident in the team’s ability to make state.
“I believe that we have a really good shot if we just stay healthy and keep on working,” sophomore Luke Arnold said. “We just have a great group of guys who can just perform and do well.”
With the 2025 Reedy cross country season reaching its final lap, the seniors will run their last few races representing Reedy. However, next season, the team will also welcome a new batch of freshmen.
“Looking at the freshmen this year, who knows how many more there will be next year.” Roeren said. “I think the team is in good hands.”
