This year, there have been many new teachers joining the Reedy faculty, and they have quickly become an essential part of the Pride. From new theater teachers to band directors, each and every one of them are ready and excited to start a new chapter.
This year the Reedy Band has two new band directors, head director Logan Stalcup and assistant director Jack Zellar. While it has been a change for the Reedy band, both directors are excited to watch everyone grow.
“I’m most excited to see the kids thrive and grow on the show,” Zellar said. “I’m really excited to see the final product and to see the kids’ hard work realized.”
In addition to the band getting a change in staff, the theater department is also welcoming Zoe Perry as the new assistant theater director.
“Everybody’s been so nice, and the kids have been really welcoming even though they’re having a director that they’ve had for several years leave,” Perry said.
However, the fine arts department isn’t the only department with new teachers. There have been several English teachers starting their first year at Reedy this school year.
“I’m most excited about the chance to grow with my students and build strong relationships,” English 4 teacher Ashleigh Kim said. “I love creating lessons that connect literature to students’ lives and seeing those ‘lightbulb moments’ when it finally clicks.”
Despite the challenges of coming to a new school, the students and environment at Reedy have definitely made it easier.
“In all transparency, I’m still transitioning and am still finding my ‘spot’ at Reedy,” Kim said. “However, the students have made this transition easier. Their energy, curiosity, and willingness to engage in class have been a constant reminder of why I love teaching.”
