For the annual Fall musical, Benjamin Shurr and Zoe Perry, the two directors for Reedy High School’s theatre department, selected “Little Shop of Horrors”. A play that portrays a heartwarming story about a man-eating plant from outer space.
The theatre team are bringing the science fiction horror musical to life this fall on dates October second, third, and fourth. The story featured talented actors such as Egbert Weatherborne as the main character Seymour and, new to the stage, Casey Divin as Audrey, his love interest.
“This is actually my first time acting, I’ve normally done tech,” Divin said.
The pick for the musical this year seemed a bit bizarre. However, Shurr said he found the choice to be obvious.
“I fell in love with this musical when I was kid,” Shurr said. “So when I saw how excited everyone was when we announced it, I knew we had to do it.”
Aside from actors and directors, the show could not go on without technicians. For example, Braydon King, a member of the costume crew, worked hard completing far from easy tasks.
“A difficult part of being in costume crew is keeping track of when the actors enter and exit the stage and knowing where all the characters’ costumes are,” King said.
The work of the ensemble makes the performances much more visually appealing for the audience.
“What I like about being in ensemble is that I can really make my character my own, not just what the script says,” freshman Kali Brooks said. “Having a designated character can make that kind of limiting.”
