The varsity baseball team at Reedy currently stands at 5-2 with hopes to repeat success from two years ago when the team made it to the state playoff tournament. They are a contender to win at the district level and at the state level.
Many of the Reedy baseball players have dedicated years of their life to the sport starting from a young age.
“I have been playing baseball since I was two years old,” senior Ethan Downum said. “I started playing baseball at a young age and my dad was a college baseball player so he coached me and I loved playing.”
Players have set their goals high hoping to return to the state championship that they previously experienced two years ago.
“My goal is to make it back to state,” senior Marcus Finney said. “I think this year we have it, if we stay healthy and make the right decisions, I think we have a good chance.”
The team holds a strong bond with each other as both players and students. Spending time with each other both on and off the field.
“I’d say the chemistry of the team is for sure important,” senior Jack Jorgenson said. “You go to school with these kids, so you see them all day. When it comes to game time, we have to get serious and work together to win.”
The team still hasn’t forgotten about their experience with state, and have hopes of making it back.
“Our team goal is to win district, have a long playoff run, go to state , and win state,” senior Grant Dovidas said.
Over all the Reedy lions baseball team has put the work in and has so far shown to be a competitor for the state championship.
“I’d like to go back to state but this time win it,” Jorgenson said.
