Christmas is one of the most popular holidays in the world, and people across the globe celebrate it in their own unique way. On December 7, Frisco kicked off the holiday season with the Frosty 5k in Frisco Square.
Due to the number of high school runners this year, even more people were drawn to the race.
“I really joined because my friends were running and I wanted to join in on the fun,” 36th-place finisher Joseph Bourdier said. “They asked me to join, and I said, ‘why not?’”
Additionally, some people saw it as an opportunity to measure where their fitness was before the start of track season.
“It was a nice opportunity to run before the start of track,” sixth-place finisher Dennis Johnson said.
The holiday environment also added to the excitement of the race.
“[It] felt very positive, and there was an overall festive atmosphere along with the motivation from the cheering crowd,” eighth-place finisher Ayden Ijaz said. “All of that came together and led to a more enjoyable feeling.”
To some, the weather was a concern to some as a cold front recently hit the area. However, in a positive turn of events, it wasn’t as cold as it had been prior to the race.
“I really expected it to be much colder,” Johnson said. “However, once we started running and our bodies warmed up, you couldn’t really feel it.”
With how well the Frosty 5k went this year, many said they plan on returning and doing better than they have in prior years.
“I really enjoyed it, and I do plan on coming back next year,” second-place finisher Lakshya Kachroo said. “I got second this year and was so close to first. So next year the goal is to win.”
