The Reedy Varsity Volleyball Team beat Wakeland on August 22nd, 2025 to open its season. Expectations are high after Reedy’s recent win and continues to work hard at competing for championships.
“At the beginning before Wakeland I wanted to do well and I want to have a winning streak for pre-season,” sophomore outside hitter Cameryn Corso said.
Corso added that after defeating Wakeland, she felt the team had “a really good chance of going far in the playoffs.”The players said they have been optimistic about their abilities and their confidence has only grown since their recent victory against Wakeland High School. The team has shared a similar mindset on how they feel this season will go.
“From the beginning we have known that we wanted to win and we’ve put in that work to have these victories,” junior and middle hitter/outside hitter Bree Benningfield said. “We beat [Wakeland] in five sets during districts, so our expectation from the beginning has been to win.'”
With expectations high, players said they are working towards continuing the winning streak in practice every morning.
“I believe the way that we strengthen our athletes’ mindsets is by putting them in situations in the weight room or on the track or in practice to push them outside their comfort zones,” Head Volleyball coach Katie Rudd said. She added that by pushing her players, they are creating “good skill and good effort.”
Coaches said they can see the rise in expectations, and students here at Reedy attending volleyball games can feel the rise in expectations as well.
“We’ve had some really good student sections this year,” Benningfield said. “We have had a lot of the seniors come and they’re very loud at the game and they do a lot of cheering for us too which gives us lots of energy.”
