The Reedy High School store, 15 & Mane, opens for students to buy items every morning, from 8:30-8:50. Since the first week of school, many students help with the student-run store. Students can buy drinks and snacks and the money helps benefit the school.
Working and helping in the school store helps students participate in learning about how to run a business.
“We are DECA officers who help run the school store smoothly and gain experience from it,” junior Anhad Kohli said.
Other than helping the store from behind the counter, students can earn service hours by standing outside to help advertise it.
“Sometimes [my friends] stand outside the school store and work really hard to make sure people come in the store to buy snacks,” sophomore Lenna Thanknickl said
However, the students who work at the school store often face the same challenges that a store outside of school would.
“The [hardest part] is to sometimes get people to come inside and buy something from the store,” Kohli said.
Students can help DECA and the school while enjoying themselves.
“I like the school store because it’s a place where I can get a lot of snacks and it gives me a chance to help the school and get treats for my friends,” sophomore Isabel Simon said. “It’s also a very good place to earn volunteer hours.”
