Reedy High School held their homecoming dance in the cafeteria on September 27. The theme was “Rio Carnival,” and the night was filled with dancing, music, and prizes.
The homecoming football game was a few days before the dance and was against Lebanon Trail, where students celebrated by wearing their mums and garters.
“In Texas it’s so big with all the mums at the football games, everyone goes and it’s super super big and I find that really fun,” senior Emily Grim said. “It’s just like the high school experience in Texas.”
The homecoming dance is a traditional part of the high school experience, one that freshmen and seniors alike look forward to.
“Homecoming is one of my favorite parts of the school year,” junior Emily Shannon said. “It’s so special getting to go every year and have fun with everyone.”
One thing that Reedy did differently this year was host the dance on campus instead of off. Although this was different than years past, the staff was able to transform Reedy into something magical.
“I had a lot of fun, they put a lot of effort into it and I really liked all the lights they put up in the courtyard,” senior homecoming king Alexander Sukhu said.
On the same day as the homecoming dance, Reedy’s marching band was competing at the Wylie Marching Invitational. This meant that they were unable to attend the actual homecoming dance, but they did have their very own band homecoming at Grandscapes.
“Even though it wasn’t traditional it was still a really special experience,” junior Robert Harper said. “I wouldn’t have preferred it any other way.”
Homecoming season can be a memorable part of the school year, and it gives students a much needed night out to have fun with friends and make memories.
“It plays a big role in students’ social life because it lets people have fun with friends and dress up nice,” sophomore Sadhana Maddineni said. “I loved seeing my friends and spending time with them.”
