On September 30, Reedy will be hosting the very first Masquerade themed homecoming.

Being the first event of the year, high expectations and large friend gatherings surround homecoming. It is an important part of the high school tradition.

“Apart from obviously studies and grades, I think the high school experience consists of activities like prom and homecoming,” Student Council secretary Aarushi Chakrabarti said. It’s important to have activities like homecoming to give students a break from their studies and just have fun with their friends.”

The event is fully organized by the Student Council organization with the help of administrators. The students are in charge of the theme, food, and decorations.

“Everybody’s helping whether it be admin, Mr. Z, our student officers, even our out-of-class people,” Student Council Administrator Julie Pellerin said. “Everybody’s hands-on doing teamwork.”

In previous years, homecoming has followed many different themes. For the first time in Frisco ISD history, Reedy will be having a masquerade theme. Students, who do not have a mask, have the opportunity to buy one at the dance.

“It’s something everyone can be a part of,” Chakrabarti said. “As long as you have a mask, you’re fitting the theme.”

In addition to the new theme, the homecoming dance will also have a new location. Unlike previous years in which the dance was at the Toyota Stadium’s Hall of Fame, this year the dance will be at the Westin Dallas Stonebriar. The change will provide greater space for people to dance, and a buffet to be served.

“We’re going to have a lot of food,” Pellerin said. “We’re gonna have a pasta bar, an American slider bar, a fried chicken sandwich bar, and drinks.”

The Student Council encourages students to come to the dance and take this opportunity to create memories for the high school years.

“I think that it allows people to have fun and to be with their friends while still enjoying school,” Student Council President Dia Sharma said. “It brings school spirit and makes sure everyone’s still having fun.”

As the first event of the year, homecoming promises great things. Lions, make sure to buy your tickets and put your masks on.

“Student population, you are important and your memories for high school are important,” Pellerin said. “We want to make sure that whatever your ideal high school life looks like in your mind, we achieve that.”
